The game was a critical and commercial success: it received glowing reviews from most video game magazines and by 1999 the game had sold more than eight million copies worldwide, with about 3 million in the first 48 hours of its release. It was one of the first console role-playing games to achieve widespread popularity outside of Asia, and the ongoing popularity of the title led Square Enix to produce a series of sequels and prequels under the collective title Compilation of Final Fantasy VII in the mid-2000s.

ok im not sure if i should ask this here as i dont want to get anyone mad and if im in the wrong please tell me. I have looked everywhere for a copy of Final Fantasy VII. I live in a fairly rural area so my local gamestops didnt have it and every place i tried has not had it. So i was wondering if anyone knew how i could get a rom of it online. I have the PS1 emulator i just need the rom. It sounds amazing and ive never played it so any help would be greatly appreciated. Anyone here think they can help me out?


@ Prophet: I dunno about FFVII being the best, if I had played it when it was first released than maybe, but now it just seems a bit aged. My main problem with it is the fact that it's too modern for its own good, it was the start of modern FF, but it is a bit lacklustre in comparison to FFX and XII. I personally think that for plot FFIX has it nailed down, with a villain acting behind the scenes for a large part of the game. With characters, most games have those mix, and there is no one game where I think "Yeah has the best characters, all of them have their own quirks,


However, FFVII was by no means a gift from God, nor was it even close to one of the best games ever made. It had its flaws, and most of them are the fact that the game had the Final Fantasy label on it. It followed FFVI, which was the best game to carry the FF label, and thus was a major disappointment. Final Fantasy to me needs to be set in time periods which last from the 9th century to the early 20th century, not a futuristic dystopia. If another RPG series were to be made in futuristic dystopias, and this game was in that series, I'd probably like it a lot more.


I'd like to make a correction here; people are saying that it's a pirated game, however, this is incorrect. Downloading the ROMs or ISOs of the official games is piracy; what the Famicom version is is a fan-made bootleg.P0lar bear 21:06, 4 June 2009 (UTC)


Should it be noted that FFVII is shown in the flash "A decline christmas"? it shows Santa playing ffvii with clouds limit break screen with maxed out HP and MP but then he realizes that a gameshark was used. --Sencilia 02:28, January 13, 2010 (UTC)


I Hope this is going to the right place, but does anyone ever feel like this website is a bit of a piss take of the original strategy guides that were released for the Final Fantasy games, in paper back format. How can any of us be sure that any of the art work on this site is not copied by some art student from sitting at home sketching from the Tv screen. Espeshaly since this site use's the same editing protocol as Wikipedia, which means anyone can edit a page regardless of weather they log-in or not.


That section under characters. Do we really needed? It is not well formatted and the information goes on the characters' individual pages anyway. And on a somewhat unrelated note, I would like to split the development info to a new article for this and for FFXV. Okay/not okay? I thought the FFXV could stay until the game comes out, since so far we can only really document development, but this one could be "ready". Name it Development of Final Fantasy VII or Final Fantasy VII/Development? Other games could be applicable too, but I have not checked. Maybe other parts could be similarly split down the line, as there is really no need to document everything game related in one article, but I'd like to do this one first.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 20:17, December 7, 2015 (UTC)


Final Fantasy VII is the seventh installment in the Final Fantasy series, first released in 1997 by Square Co., Ltd., and continues to be one of the most popular games in the series (not if GameFAQs has anything to say about it). It was directed by Yoshinori Kitase, written by Kitase and Kazushige Nojima, and produced by Hironobu Sakaguchi. It was the first game of the Final Fantasy series to be developed for the PlayStation rather than a Nintendo system, and the first game in the series to be ported to Windows with a remake for PlayStation 4 announced at E3 2015 and released in 2017. Final Fantasy VII was the first Final Fantasy title with entirely 3D (polygonal) character models, although the majority of environments were two-dimensional pre-rendered maps (except the world map and battle screens, which were rendered in full 3D). The remake had the best graphics of any game ever made, but forced the devs to release the game on several blu-ray discs, overloading players' PS4 HDDs with crap.


The original Final Fantasy VII is one of the best-selling games of all time, with the highest sales (over 11 million copies) of any game in the Final Fantasy series, and the second highest sales for a game on the PlayStation platform. It received GameSpot's Editor's Choice, scoring a 9.5/10 and a 9.6/10 user score. Since its debut on the Sony PlayStation, Final Fantasy VII has been released on the PC and the PlayStation Network. It is widely considered one of the most influential RPGs to-date. The remake was a financial failure for Squeenix, prompting them to release more terrible cash cow games and filler FFXIV patches.
