Ranking Movies My Kids Watch – Part 2: The Top 10 Movies for Kids (and Parents) in 2023

From 1988 onwards, Pink Floyd utilized additional sampled parts of the kids' choir, which were triggered by Jon Carin. Most notably, the space between the second verse and David Gilmour's solo was always filled with the shout "Hey, teacher!". In addition, on 1988 and 1989 shows, Carin also triggered the same sample in a 'stuttering' manner over Guy Pratt's short bass solo bridging Gilmour's and Renwick's solo. On the original releases of Delicate Sound of Thunder and Pulse however, this effect was muted (even though the DVD of Pulse still shows the stage LEDs spelling out "HEY TEACHER" at the appropriate moments). The 2019 remix of Delicate Sound of Thunder restores the first "Hey, teacher" and even brings the second sampling up in the mix, despite it being relatively quiet on all bootlegs of the era and inaudible on the mix of the Venice concert, which however has the first "Hey, teacher" intact.

The original and still the best, Jim Henson's first big-screen Muppetathon was an origin story long before Batman Begins and co got in on the act. Beginning with Kermit watching his own swamp-based origins on screen (meta much?), the Dark Frog embarks on a US road trip involving brainwashing, insta-grow pills, Dr. Teeth and bizarro/awesome cameos from Telly Savalas and Orson Welles. You can't explain the plot without being put on a psychiatric watch list, but your kids will love you for trying.

Ranking Movies My Kids Watch – Part 2

Not just one of the greatest kids' films of all time, but one of the greatest movies full stop, show your children this and you'll be ticking off two boxes in one. There are many important life lessons - about heart and smarts and the loyalty of little canines - in between all the glorious songs, kaleidoscopic sets and a lot of Munchkin mayhem. Although if your little'uns want to know why it's okay for Dorothy to kill so many people, you're on your own.

Is Sonic the Hedgehog 2 kid friendly? At a runtime of 2 hours 2 minutes, this sequel is very lengthy for little wiggle worm kids, almost 30 minutes longer than the original Sonic (runtime 1 hour 39 minutes). There are some slower, dialogue heavy, extended scenes that could be possibly boring for younger children. However, with the introduction of new animated characters, non-stop action, new adventures and lots of physical comedy, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 continues to captivate young audiences, encouraging families to watch together.

What age is recommended to watch Sonic the Hedgehog 2? With the full PG rating breakdown above, I would not recommend Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie to kids younger than the age of 5-6 years old. While I lowered this Sonic age rating compared to the one I gave for the original Sonic movie, parents will need to weigh in on the increased alcohol and adult content, despite the lack of bad language before allowing kids to watch. I cannot emphasize enough to pre-screen Sonic 2 for any content that may be questionable for your family personally.

Thank you, Tania.I've been very worried at letting my kids watch without watching those movies myself, so it is really great to have this kind of information, especially from a mother. I really really appreciate it!! Please keep updates if you can!

Oh also I did see that you said all Marvel movies were rated PG13 but I but I would like to remind you that before Disney bought them which was very recent in terms of How long Marvel Comics has been around, but they do have over 10 movies with Marvel protagonists. I will say for kids 12 or younger (prefer childs mental maturity over number personality so up to parent to decide) anything on Disney's streaming service Disney+ is going to get my kid friendly stamp of approval. Deadpool 3 has been decided to go R obviously but it and anything else over PG-13 will not be on Disney+

Equal parts endearing and heartbreaking, the Disney classic rotates around young lion Simba, who must rise to power after the loss of his father, Mufasa in what basically amounts to Hamlet for kids. The animation here is perhaps the most stunning of Disney's hand-drawn era, and the songs are timeless. Feel free to skip the 2019 reboot, which sucks all the color and expressiveness out of one of Disney's most vibrant tales. Rated G.

The V-chip allows parents or other caregivers to block programming on their TVs that they don't want children to watch. Most programs are assigned a rating based on parental guidelines established by the TV industry. The ratings provide information about the content and age-appropriateness of most TV programs, except news, sports and unedited movies on premium cable channels.

One film in particular that is condemned in this way is Scarface. Children in the film say they want to be like Tony Montana but the life of crime they find is not the one that they had envisioned from the movies.

Marisa (she/her) has covered all things parenting, from the postpartum period through the empty nest, for Good Housekeeping since 2018; she previously wrote about parents and families at Parents and Working Mother. She lives with her husband and daughter in Brooklyn, where she can be found dominating the audio round at her local bar trivia night or tweeting about movies.

Ratings are not designed to indicate that films are appropriate or inappropriate, they are simply a way of saying what kind of content is included in the movie to give parents a chance to make informed decisions on what they are allowing their children to watch. When you are looking at ratings, look at the three parts included in a rating.

R: Restricted, Children Under 17 Require Accompanying Parent or Adult Guardian. This rating means the film contains adult material such as adult activity, harsh language, intense graphic violence, drug abuse and nudity. Most theaters have their own policies regarding R rated movies and some include checking IDs of those who look under 17 purchasing tickets, allowing only parents to purchase tickets and accompany those under 17 into the movie, or just stating it has to be an adult guardian (not necessarily a parent) and that guardian has to purchase the tickets and accompany under 17 ages the entire time. Check with your theater on the policies and other parents about what you will allow your children to watch.

The most popular songs of today offer at least a lyric or two that is inappropriate for younger audiences. The music videos display even more, or perhaps you should say less, because of the small amount of clothing usually any them. Some music videos are fine, but again, just be aware of what your kids are watching.

Each one is extremely watchable (ask the millions of people who have whiled away afternoons sitting catatonic in front of whatever re-runs happened to be on Comedy Central) but some of them are much, much funnier than others. Take, for example, almost any episode in which Ross is part of the lead storyline. It has been said many, many times before, but Ross is clearly the best (and for that matter, the funniest) character on the show.

Watching subtitled anime can help kids practice their reading skills without even realizing they are doing so (4). Some fans of anime are also then drawn to reading the manga books on which many of the shows and movies are based.

Keep in mind that while ratings can be helpful, they are only a guide. Nothing is better than you listening to and watching media with your kids. The American Academy of Pediatrics strongly recommends co-viewing media with your children as often as you can. This gives you a chance to talk about what you're hearing or seeing and how it fits into your family's values.

Whatever media your child is using should be age appropriate. If possible, it should also reinforce your family's values. If you can, it's good to pre-screen what your child watches. That said, with the sheer amount of media kids are exposed to, it's unrealistic that you'll be able to pre-screen or co-view everything.

Studies show that decreasing the amount of TV kids watched led to less weight gain and lower body mass index (BMI). Replacing video game time with outdoor game time is another good way to help kids maintain a healthy weight.

The Broadway production of Shrek the Musical has been available on Netflix since long before the critically acclaimed Hamilton was on Disney+. Original premiering on Broadway in 2008, Shrek the Musical tells the same story as the original Shrek movie, with 31 new songs written specifically for the show. The musical gives bigger roles to the fairy tale characters surrounding Shrek and much more insight into Princess Fiona's character following her rescue from the tower. The biggest drawback to Shrek the Musical, other than the loss of voice actors Mike Myers (whose kids ironically hate Shrek) and Eddie Murphy, is the weirdness of the ogre costumes in the show; regardless, the overwhelming joyfulness of the songs and the incredible technical effects make Shrek the Musical well worth one's time. Finally, the addition of Broadway performers Sutton Foster and Brian d'Arcy James elevate Shrek the Musical into one of the better Shrek movies.

Whether it's a rainy weekend, the third snow day in a row and you're looking for a quick and easy fix for cabin fever, or the kids are begging for something new to watch before bedtime, having a list of the best toddler movies can come in handy in a pinch. Movies can solve boredom as well as entertain and educate the kiddos on important themes. Luckily, you can find a plethora of kid-friendly movies on Hulu, Netflix,

If your kids look forward to watching the PBS series of the same name, then they'll love this 2006 movie starring Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat (voiced by Will Ferrell). They won't be able to stop giggling every time George gets the best of the Man in the Yellow Hat. 2ff7e9595c
