Depending on one's perspective, one could argue that the marines' policy of absolute justice makes them worse than the very evil that they claim to fight. Onigumo, a firm believer in absolute justice, ordered a marine under his command to destroy the marine battleship upon which Luffy and Rob Lucci were fighting at Enies Lobby. A marine soldier, disliking the prospect of murdering 1000 of his comrades for the sake of killing 1 pirate, protested the Vice Admiral's orders, which resulted in Onigumo shooting the marine in cold blood. The order was then carried out, the result of which was the destruction of the battleship and the marine crew on board. However, Luffy escaped the blast with ease, thus making the sacrifice completely pointless.
There have been a few off-screen developments between games that might seem like continuity errors to the uninitiated, but there's always a reason if you look at the supplementary materials for the game. For example, Deadshot has been reimagined as African-American (presumably to be more in line with his movie portrayal by Will Smith), but there's an official explanation: namely, that this guy killed the old Deadshot and nicked his gear. Gosh. I mean, I suppose they are bad guys; it's what they do. This Deadshot does claim that Arkham-era Deadshot stole the identity from him first, though, so maybe that's slightly better?

The team later encounters a villainess named Locus, with a seemingly deity-like control over reality and a clear connection to "The Five", the group that Cadmus tries to fight against with. Locus easily defeats the heroes and after seemingly killing the Flash, she teleports Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in a prison planet and abducts Green Lantern. At the prison planet, the trio meets their original creator, Ariel Masters, a scientist who previously worked at Cadmus and was a mentor to the Wonder Twins. She reveals that she abandoned the project, believing that she deleted all her research and work, because she felt that what they were doing was unmoral but the twins achieved to save and re-download her research proceeding with the project without her. Ariel then tells to the Leaguers the truth behind the real nature, they are not clones of the original heroes but human hosts with the heroes DNA grafted onto them overwriting and replacing their own genetic codes with those of the Justice League. At Cadmus Labs, the twins revive the Flash once again and prepare him to go and save the rest of the team but they won't send him alone, they say he will need one of his own, presenting to him another Leaguer, Firestorm.
During Forever Evil: Blight, Constantine awakes in the House of Mystery, unsure how he got there. He slowly begins to remember gaining control of Pandora's Box and then the Crime Syndicate defeating the three Justice Leagues. He attempts to conjure an enchantment to find Zatanna and the other members of the Justice League Dark but it does not work. He then sees a conjured Zatanna from his conscious, who reveals that Pandora's Box is still having an adverse effect on him. The conjuring is revealed to be Nightmare Nurse, who sought out Constantine to remove the remnants of the Box from him. They are joined by Swamp Thing, who agrees to help, as the Green has been agitated by the Crime Syndicates arrival and the three try to track the missing members of the Justice League. John determines that the Trinity of Sin are the ones who will be able to help them and summons them to the Rock of Eternity. The Trinity of Sin are able to get out of their chains. The Question does not decide to help and vanishes, while Pandora agrees to help. Constantine coaxes Phantom Stranger to join by offering him one of his pieces of silver. Phantom Stranger declines and tries to leave the House. He wanders through it and after seeing various moments of his past, returns to the others and tells Constantine he will help their cause. Elsewhere, Chris Esperanza, the Phantom Stranger's friend he brought back from the dead, overcome by his emotional turmoil of being resurrected, awakens Blight inside of him, allowing his body to become the vessel for Blight. Now in his vessel, Blight summons Constantine, Swamp Thing, Nightmare Nurse, Phantom Stranger and Pandora to his location in New York City. Pandora begins shooting at Blight, only for Blight to start killing each member, killing Pandora last. As she dies, she is approached by Nightmare Nurse in her subconscious, letting her know this is the result of the Dun-Kon-Wen and they have a plan so they all remain sane. It is shown that the group's bodies have ended up in Doctor Thirteen's apartment. While floating in the subconscious, Constantine sees Deadman, who tells him he is the only hope the former Justice League Dark members have to survive. Nightmare Nurse is able to revive everyone with her psyche, when Constantine informs them of his visit from Deadman. They determine that it actually was him, not a delusion, and Constantine, Nightmare Nurse, Swamp Thing and Pandora set out to find him. They travel to the bottom of the ocean, where they arrive at Nan Madol, a deserted undersea kingdom finding the Sea King. Pandora informs Constantine that they have to stop him, as the Sea King is housing Deadman's spirit. On the surface, the group is able to stop Sea King's attack and break the connection Sea King's body had on Deadman. Deadman wakes up and informs the group he jumped into Sea King's body during the Crime Syndicate's arrival and that it twisted his mind so he did not know how he was. Constantine removes the last traces of Sea King's consciousness and locks Deadman in the body to have a weapon to use against the Crime Syndicate. At the border of Heaven, the group is confronted by the Spectre and Zauriel. Later the group once again encounters Blight. With Blight gone, so is the psychic static that originally prevented Constantine from finding Zatanna and the others, and he is able to locate them. Back at the House of Mystery, Nightmare Nurse is tending to Constantine, who is suffering from adverse side effects from the Blackmare Curse. In order to find the location of the Justice Leagues, Phantom Stranger attempts to accelerate Constantine's recovery by taking himself and Nightmare Nurse into one of Constantine's memories. There, the Phantom Stranger forces Constantine to use the light in himself to fight off his personal demons, which cures him. Constantine combines his magic with Pandora's and they are able to locate the Justice League members in Nanda Parbat. Once there, Deadman in Sea King's body is able to gain entrance to the temples, where the group realizes that Felix Faust and Nick Necro are behind the operation. Under a concealment spell, the group follows Deadman further into the temple to try and rescue the Justice Leagues. Constantine and Nightmare Nurse travel further through the temple, where they eventually come across the other mystics being held for the project Necro and Faust has been working on. They see Black Orchid, Cassandra Craft, Shade, the Changing Man, Enchantress, Blackbriar Thorn, Blue Devil, Papa Midnite, Sargon and Zatanna being held for the use in the Crime Syndicate's weapons program to use against the entity that destroyed their world. Constantine realizes that Nightmare Nurse is not herself, actually Necro in disguise. The two fight and Constantine is able to stop Necro in order to try and free Zatanna. Before he is able to, his is captured by Faust. Pandora and the others arrive and proceed to free Nightmare Nurse and the others in captivity. Nightmare Nurse heals Deadman, while Constantine finds Zatanna.
Meanwhile, Martian Manhunter and Stargirl awake in the outer part of the Firestorm matrix, where they encounter someone who appears to be Jason Rusch, half of the duo that is Firestorm. Jason proceeds to informs them that he believes they are in a prison constructed by the Crime Syndicate, as well as offers to bring Martian Manhunter through the inner parts. There, Martian Manhunter realizes that the "prison" seems to react to each of its inmates, creating a different experience for each. After losing Jason and realizing he is being pursued by an unknown person, J'onn is contacted by Stargirl, who stayed behind. She tells him she found a way out and steps into the Crime Syndicate-led world. Losing connection to Martian Manhunter, Stargirl goes after him through the matrix. She passes through the previous prisons Jonn did, but sees glimpses of her past in each. She eventually finds him battling a version of himself crafted by the matrix. It is stated that the prison has no effect on Stargirl due to her youth. As such, she is able to escape the prison and takes Jonn with her. Once out of the prison, Stargirl comes across members of the Secret Society. Stargirl realizes that by escaping the prison, Manhunter's conscious has merged with her. While she is fighting the Society members, she also is fighting Manhunter from entering her mind and memories. Manhunter is able to control Stargirl temporarily to fight off the Society and Stargirl is able to focus long enough to escape. Finding a quiet spot, Manhunter attempts to locate the prison, only to trigger a memory of Stargirl's that makes her realize she needs to go help her family. Stargirl, wanting Manhunter out of her mind, is able to separate herself from him and heads off to find her family. Manhunter, realizing the prison has weakened his abilities, is able to locate it and realize that the prison is Firestorm himself and Firestorm is counting down. It is later revealed that Despero is the one who creates the illusions inside the matrix prison and when Stargirl and Martian Manhunter get loose he goes after them. Despero goes and kills Stargirl's brother and then fights with both heroes, taking out Stargirl and killing Martian Manhunter. Stargirl survives and then succeeds in finding Firestorm, stopping the countdown of Firestorm, which was caused unknowingly by Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond. After that all the Leaguers are seemingly freed but then Stargirl wakes up back in the prison. J'onn who is apparently alive reveals that Despero creates his illusions from the outside and besides the fact that everything she encountered before were not real, she did broke out of her "prison". He also says that while Courtney was unconscious he could communicated with Steve Trevor who told him that he thinks he can free them by using Wonder Woman's lasso but they first need to find her. 2ff7e9595c
